| I write very few protest songs but in the early 1990’s the Wild Mustang was being hunted in the California desert and it’s meat and skin was being sold in Mexico. | ||||

| VERSE 1 | ||||
| Hoof beats sound like thunder Like the broad sky he’s under His beauty is a wonder of creation. In the land of the free He’s a page in history His forebears helped us build this great nation. |
||||
| VERSE 2 | ||||
| Heroes on his saddle Charged bravely into battle While Old Glory waived on high he was there. The Marshal or the Outlaw His master was whoever called Who needs him now does anybody care? |
||||
| CHORUS | ||||
| He’s a Wild Mustang running free Hear his silent cry for help just let him be, He should live and let my children see A Wild Mustang running free |
||||
| VERSE 3 | ||||
| Westward with the wagon trains ’Cross mountains an the open plains His strong back helped to make this country great. When they were through abandoned him Now kill him for his flesh and skin One so brave deserves a better fate. |
||||
| CHORUS | ||||
| He’s a Wild Mustang running free Hear his silent cry for help just let him be, He should live and let my children see A Wild Mustang running free |
||||
| VERSE 4 | ||||
| Head held high tall and proud A shot rings out clear and loud A bullet tears deep into his side. There’s no one there to shed a tear Because there’s no one there to hear His cry for help as he lays down to die. |
||||
| CHORUS | ||||
| He’s a Wild Mustang running free Hear his silent cry for help just let him be, He should live and let my children see A Wild Mustang running free |
||||
| This happened to a friend of mine. | ||||
| NOTHING WALL TO WALL © David Moulton | ||||
| VERSE 1 | ||||
| Our marriage was on the rocks Wrecked beyond all hope So I knew when I stayed out two days I was pushing the envelope. I was thinking as I turned my key She didn’t change the lock But when I opened up the door I got quite a shock. |
||||
| CHORUS | ||||
| There was nothing wall to wall She took it all, There were some hangers in a closet And some nails up in the hall. She left me a phone book But there was no phone to call Apart from that and an old door mat There was nothing wall to wall. |
||||
| VERSE 2 | ||||
| I took the girl for granted Didn’t think she’d go this far, I had my old pick-up truck But she took off with the car. Where our Lincoln Continental stood There was a little brown oil patch, Looks like she’s startin’ over While I’m startin’ out from scratch. |
||||
| CHORUS | ||||
| ’Cos there’s nothing wall to wall She took it all, There were some hangers in a closet And some nails up in the hall. She left me a phone book But there was no phone to call Apart from that and an old door mat There was nothing wall to wall. |
||||
| BRIDGE | ||||
| For a man in my position I think I showed restraint, With the house in this condition It would be a good time to paint. |
||||
| CHORUS | ||||
| ’Cos there’s nothing wall to wall She took it all, There were some hangers in a closet And some nails up in the hall. She left me a phone book But there was no phone to call Apart from that and an old door mat There was nothing wall to wall. |
||||
| TAG | ||||
| There is no doubt she cleaned me out And left me nothing wall to wall. |
||||
| I have two daughters who live in England. This was written for them. | ||||
| WHEN I HEAR MY LITTLE GIRL CRY © David Moulton | ||||
| VERSE 1 | ||||
| I remember the first time I held you A little baby new to the world A love without end began way back then Between a daddy and his little girl. I remember the time I left you And you were only ten years old How you clung to me as we said our good-byes Your tears like a knife turned in my soul. |
||||
| CHORUS | ||||
| Take all of the pain and the heartaches There’s one that cuts me deep inside. And will always bring me down to my knees When I hear my little girl cry. |
||||
| VERSE 2 | ||||
| Time has passed now were older We’ve been there for each other through the years, Marriages ended, lovers passed on by We shared the good times and the tears. The miles that are between us Disappear with a telephone call But if I hear you cry and I’m not there to hold you It’s the toughest call of them all |
||||
| CHORUS | ||||
| Take all of the pain and the heartaches There’s one that cuts me deep inside. And will always bring me down to my knees When I hear my little girl cry. |
||||
| BRIDGE | ||||
| I’ve loved others but you’re the only one I can say I will love until the end, But I would give anything if I could create A world in which you’d never cry again. |
||||
| CHORUS | ||||
| Take all of the pain and the heartaches There’s one that cuts me deep inside. And will always bring me down to my knees When I hear my little girl cry. |
