Update 10/15/05

My thanks to Mary Lou Mitchell from San Diego who emailed me with these pictures. She commented:

I'm the original owner of one of the 19 custom Grand Touring bikes you built back in the early 80's. I spent many wonderful hours riding my bike, mostly around San Diego County. I was never a part of the established bicycling community in San Diego, I'm just someone who loved to take in the sights, sounds and smells of nature from a bicycle. When my son was born in 1995 the rides on my Moulton gave way to motherhood and my bike sat in my garage for those years. While cleaning my garage 2 weeks ago I took it out, cleaned it off and had such great memories. I felt like a ballerina on my (your) bicycle and now that my son is older I'm going to get it tuned and ready to ride again. It has the original paint and components. (Continued.)

I opted not to have the engraving on the fork and bottom bracket, I didn't want dirt and water to collect there. Mostly I just wanted to write to say thank you for my beautiful bike, and the memories I have riding it. My friends thought I was crazy to spend so much money on a bicycle. The intrinsic nature of the ride is what I bought and I knew then what I still know, they were wrong and I was right!

Warm Regards, Mary Lou Mitchell.

Dave Moulton Footnote: This frame was built in June 1982 while still working in the Masi shop. This unique frame has many special features. As well as no engraving Mary Lou mentions above. It was made for bar end shifters, with cable stops instead of down tube lever bosses, and two sets of water bottle mounts on the down tube.

  Update 5/5/05

  An oldie but goodie

This track frame was built in England in 1978, the year before I came to the U.S. This is the original paint job.

My thanks to Nick Robertson from Surrey, England for this picture.

Update 1/25/06

Stephen Gies bought this custom frame in 1984, he said.

"I am the original owner and I thought you would like to know that I "retired" the Moulton in 1995 with 40,000 + miles on the original Campy drivetrain. The bike still delivers a sweet ride."

No doubt here that Stephen is the original owner; it states so right on the frame.
